Hello BG Neighbors 👋

We’re settling into April this week, and Bowling Green is starting to feel a little more alive again — longer days, more people out and about, and a calendar that’s finally filling back up.

This week’s issue covers a mix of what’s happening right now and what’s just ahead — from a developing situation at WKU that’s getting attention locally, to new events around town, and a few community stories that remind you why Bowling Green still feels like a small town in the best ways.

There’s a lot going on, and a few things worth keeping an eye on.

Let’s get into it.

😳 WKU Cracks Down on Fraternity After Hazing Report

Source: WBKO

Western Kentucky University is taking action after a reported hazing incident involving a fraternity — a move that’s getting attention both on campus and across Bowling Green.

According to university officials, Western Kentucky University launched an investigation after receiving a report tied to the Kappa Sigma chapter. The school says it has a zero-tolerance policy for hazing and is moving quickly in response.

While specific details about the incident have not been fully released, the university confirmed that disciplinary steps are already underway as part of its student conduct process.

For a town like Bowling Green — where WKU plays such a central role — situations like this tend to ripple beyond campus. Greek life, student culture, and campus safety are all topics that affect not just students, but families, alumni, and the broader community.

It’s also part of a larger conversation happening nationwide around accountability and student safety in college organizations.

As more information becomes available, this is a story many locally will be keeping an eye on.

⛽️ Business Update: Wawa Coming to Bowling Green

A new business is coming to Bowling Green, Wawa’s is a nationwide brand that has made the decision to join the BG community.

Wawa’s — Coming Soon

A new name could soon be joining Bowling Green’s growing list of food and convenience options — and it’s one a lot of people already know.

Wawa, the East Coast-based convenience store and gas station known for its fresh food, coffee, and late-night options, is reportedly on the way to Bowling Green, with plans tied to a site off Hennessy Way.

If it moves forward as expected, it would mark a pretty noticeable addition to the local landscape — especially for anyone who’s spent time in states where Wawa is already established. The brand has built a reputation around made-to-order food, quick service, and being one of the more reliable “any time of day” stops.

For Bowling Green, it’s another sign of continued growth along some of the city’s busiest corridors, where new development and national brands have been steadily expanding.

Nothing is open yet — but this is the kind of addition that people will definitely notice once it lands.

❤️ Community Spotlight: Local woman turns personal struggle into support for families across Bowling Green

Source: WNKY

For many people, Child Abuse Prevention Month is something they see on a calendar. For one Bowling Green woman, it’s something she’s lived.

Wanda Johnson, founder of Journey to Faith in Recovery, is using her own family’s experience to support children and families facing difficult situations. After stepping in to raise her grandchildren, Johnson saw firsthand the impact that instability and abuse can have — not just on kids, but on entire families trying to find their footing again.

Instead of stepping back, she leaned in.

Through her work, Johnson now focuses on helping families navigate those same challenges, offering support, guidance, and a sense of community for people who often feel like they’re going through it alone. Her approach isn’t about quick fixes — it’s about showing up consistently and helping people rebuild, one step at a time.

As Bowling Green recognizes Child Abuse Prevention Month this April, stories like hers serve as a reminder that behind every awareness campaign are real people doing the work every day — often quietly, and often without recognition.

It’s not always easy work, and it’s rarely visible from the outside. But for the families she’s helped, it matters.

And for a lot of people in this community, that kind of steady, behind-the-scenes impact is what makes Bowling Green feel like home.

That’s it for this week, BG.
