Hello BG Neighbors 👋

We’re wrapping up March this week, and there’s a lot happening around town — including a major road project that’s about to impact one of Bowling Green’s busiest routes.

As always, this week’s edition is focused on what’s happening locally, what’s changing around town, and what’s coming up across Bowling Green.

As always, thanks for being part of Hello BG — let’s get into it.

🏗 Major road project set to impact one of Bowling Green’s busiest routes

A major road project is about to begin in Bowling Green — and if you drive the bypass regularly, it’s going to affect you.

State officials say work will soon begin on a $7.4 million project along the U.S. 31-W Bypass, targeting the stretch between Fairview Avenue and Park Street — one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the city.

Once construction starts, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with officials warning that significant delays and traffic backups are expected — potentially lasting through fall 2027.

The project includes adding turn lanes, improving traffic flow, and installing a raised median to better manage access along the corridor — changes aimed at handling the roughly 18,000 vehicles that travel that stretch every day.

While the construction period is expected to be challenging, transportation officials say the goal is to improve safety and reduce congestion in an area that continues to see heavy growth.

For Bowling Green residents, it’s one of those projects that may be frustrating in the short term — but could reshape how traffic moves through a key part of the city for years to come.

Purple Toad WineryNew Location in BG

WNKY

A well-known Kentucky winery is officially planting roots in Bowling Green — and it’s a big one.

Purple Toad Winery & Distillery has opened a new tasting room and event venue in Warren County, marking a major expansion for one of the state’s most recognizable wine brands.

The new location sits on a 10-acre property and is designed to be more than just a tasting room. The facility includes a 20,000-square-foot venue, complete with large indoor event space, multiple bars, and room to host weddings and gatherings of up to 400 people.

For founder Allen Dossey — a Cave City native and WKU graduate — the Bowling Green location is something of a homecoming. The company has grown into one of Kentucky’s largest wineries, with Dossey noting that Purple Toad accounts for a significant share of wine sales across the state.

While production will remain at the winery’s Paducah headquarters, the Bowling Green location is now considered the brand’s flagship tasting experience, built to attract visitors from across the region.

The space also continues to expand, with additional outdoor features like a pavilion planned to host even more events in the future.

For Bowling Green, it’s another sign of how the city continues to grow — not just in population, but in the kinds of experiences and destinations now available locally.

❤️ Community Spotlight: Grandparents stepping up — and finding support in Bowling Green

Source: WBKO

For some families in Bowling Green, parenting doesn’t happen just once.

A growing number of grandparents in the area are stepping in to raise their grandchildren, often unexpectedly — taking on the responsibility of parenting all over again later in life.

These families, often referred to as “grandfamilies,” face unique challenges — from navigating school systems again to managing finances and housing on a fixed income.

But here in Bowling Green, they’re not doing it alone.

Recent efforts highlighted this week show how local programs are helping connect these families with housing, resources, and community support, giving both grandparents and children a more stable path forward.

For many of these grandparents, the decision to step in isn’t complicated — it’s simply about making sure their grandchildren are safe and cared for.

And for the kids, it means having someone who shows up, stays consistent, and provides a sense of home during uncertain times.

It’s not always easy. But it’s a powerful example of something Bowling Green does well — neighbors and families stepping up when it matters most.
