Hello BG Neighbors 👋

Another weIt’s cold out there — and it’s looking like another very cold week ahead across Bowling Green. After last week’s winter storm, a lot of us are still navigating icy spots, bundled-up errands, and slower mornings.

This week’s edition covers what conditions look like right now, what local officials are saying, and a full lineup of community updates and events once things start to thaw.

Stay warm, take it slow, and let’s get into it.

❄️ How bad was the winter storm in Bowling Green?

Most of Bowling Green felt the effects of last week’s winter storm — a mix of snow, ice, and bitter cold that created hazardous conditions across Warren County and much of south-central Kentucky. While the heaviest snow has moved on, officials say conditions are still not back to normal.

Where things stand now:
Road crews across Warren County are continuing to clear and treat streets, especially secondary roads and less-traveled areas. Officials say many roadways remain packed with snow and ice bonded to the pavement, which can stay slick even after plowing. With daytime melting followed by freezing overnight temperatures, refreezing remains a major concern — particularly during early mornings and after dark.

Because of those lingering hazards, Warren County Emergency Management is encouraging residents to stay home if they can, allowing crews to work and reducing the risk of crashes and injuries.

As cleanup continues, Warren County Government offices remain closed, along with county park facilities and programs, until conditions improve. Officials say closures help keep both staff and the public safe while roads and walkways continue to be treated.

The takeaway for BG:
This wasn’t just a short-lived snow event — and even as progress is made, ice and cold mean it’s still a good week to slow down, plan ahead, and use extra caution if you need to be out.

❤️ New Business: Golden Corral Coming to BG

We love spotlighting local businesses doing cool things or new businesses on there way to BG — this one is worth knowing about.

Golden Corral — The Classic Buffet Chain

If you’ve ever missed a big, hearty buffet meal around town, you’ll soon have another option. The national buffet and grill chain Golden Corral has announced plans to open a location on Scottsville Rd in Bowling Green, bringing its familiar all-you-can-eat style to the local dining scene.

Golden Corral — known for its wide spread of comfort foods, steaks, salads, and desserts — has been growing in markets across the country for decades, and the Bowling Green expansion is part of that broader push. The restaurant’s franchising arm listed Bowling Green as a forthcoming location earlier this year, with the company saying the market’s size and community interest made it a good fit for their family-friendly model.

Locally, the exact site and opening date haven’t been announced yet, but the project has been noted in restaurant development coverage and community discussions as “coming soon.”

For Bowling Green, this signals continued growth in full-service, family-oriented dining options — something many readers have asked about as the local restaurant scene expands. Between new independent concepts and national brands staking a claim here, the city’s food landscape keeps diversifying.

Keep an eye out for official announcements on location, projected opening date, and menu details as the project moves closer to construction and permitting.

❤️ Community Spotlight: Bowling Green First-Grader Honored for Saving His Family

Source: WNKY

In the middle of all the winter weather and daily life, one local kid showed some true courage — and the community took notice.

Six-year-old Bryson Ray, a first-grader at Natcher Elementary, was recognized this week after alerting his family to a hidden house fire on New Year’s Day. Bryson noticed something wasn’t right inside his home — he felt heat and heard crackling inside the walls — and instead of brushing it off, he ran to alert his dad, who got everyone out safely before firefighters arrived. No one was seriously hurt, and firefighters later honored Bryson with a little fire helmet and a stuffed Dalmatian named Millie as a token of gratitude.

What makes this more than a “feel-good” story is that Bryson acted like adults are always supposed to do — he paid attention to his instincts and helped keep his whole family safe. Fire officials hope his example will remind other families about fire safety and listening to their kids when something feels off.

👉 This isn’t just a cute moment — it’s a reminder of how ordinary people — even the youngest among us — can make a real difference in their community.
