Hello BG Neighbors 👋

We’re settling into February this week, with cold temps still hanging around and a lot happening across town despite the chill. From a fresh look at what’s coming next for Riverfront Park, to local business updates, and a packed calendar of events for the days ahead, there’s no shortage of things worth knowing — and a few reasons to get out of the house once the weather cooperates.

As always, this week’s edition is focused on what matters locally, what’s changing, and what’s coming up around Bowling Green.

Let’s get into it.

🌿 A New Look at Riverfront Park’s Next Chapter

Bowling Green just gave residents a clearer picture of what’s coming next along the river.

City officials have released new renderings and plans for Phase 2 of Riverfront Park, offering a preview of how one of BG’s most popular community spaces is expected to grow in the coming years.

The next phase builds on the existing park with expanded green space, improved walking paths, gathering areas, and design elements meant to better connect downtown to the riverfront. City leaders say the goal is to create a space that works not just for big events, but for everyday use — whether that’s a walk, a family outing, or a quiet spot to spend time outside.

This phase is still in the planning and development process, but the newly released visuals give residents their first real sense of how the park could look and function once complete. It’s part of a longer-term effort to invest in public spaces that support quality of life, recreation, and downtown growth.

After a stretch of winter weather and closures, it’s a reminder that long-term projects are still moving forward — and that the riverfront will continue to be a central part of Bowling Green’s future.

📣 City & Community Notes

However, side streets and secondary roads still have lingering ice and packed snow, and Warren County Emergency Management continues to urge caution for drivers, especially on less-traveled roads. Heating centers remain available for those without reliable heat. 👉 Learn More

🍞 Business Update: The Corner Bakery on Scottsville Road Has Closed

This is a little different then our usual business section but this is a story worth knowing.

The Corner Bakery — Closed permanently

The Corner Bakery, a restaurant located on Scottsville Road, has permanently closed, according to signage at the location and recent online updates from the business.

In the days before the closure, the restaurant had drawn local attention after announcing plans to host a drag-themed event. That event was ultimately canceled and did not take place.

Around the same time, discussion spread online about the property the restaurant operated from. The building is owned by the same owner as the nearby Rafferty’s restaurant, and multiple public accounts indicated that the property owner had told the bakery its lease could be terminated if the event moved forward. No public documentation has been released detailing the terms of the lease or any formal action taken so it is hard to know if this is truly valid or speculation at this time.

What is confirmed:

  • The Corner Bakery has closed permanently

  • The planned event did not occur

  • The closure followed shortly after the controversy

  • No official public statement explaining the closure has been issued by the business or the property owner

Because no formal explanation has been provided, the exact reason for the closure remains unclear, and multiple interpretations continue to circulate locally.

❤️ Community Spotlight: Neighbors Helping Neighbors During the Cold

While last week’s winter weather disrupted routines across Bowling Green, one thing quietly stayed constant: people showing up for each other.

As temperatures dropped into dangerous territory, local warming centers and shelters relied heavily on volunteers to keep doors open, meals served, and spaces safe for neighbors who needed a warm place to go. From checking people in to serving food and monitoring overnight conditions, volunteers helped ensure no one had to face the cold alone.

City and county officials emphasized that these efforts weren’t just about emergency response — they were about community care, especially for seniors, unhoused neighbors, and anyone without reliable heat during the cold snap.

Several local organizations reported increased demand during the coldest nights, and they say the response from volunteers made a real difference. For many, it was as simple as taking a few hours to help — but for the people on the other side of that door, it meant warmth, safety, and peace of mind.

As the weather slowly improves, local leaders say the need for compassion doesn’t disappear with the snow. The past week served as a reminder that Bowling Green’s strength isn’t just in its infrastructure — it’s in its people.

That’s it for this week, BG.
